God's Kitchen
God's Kitchen and the Lighthouse Ministry has been a part of Clover for the past 14 years. Pastor Sam Thompson formerly was an Interim pastor at
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and has now been serving the needs of the downtrodden in our area through meals, shelter, food boxes, food deliveries
and job placement for those who are living in the shelter.
God's Kitchen began serving one pot of soup two times per week. In fact, only seven years ago, the carry-out food delivery side of the ministry only
met the needs of 6 people. Now it delivers food to about 150 "shut-ins" per week. It also accommodates 150 people who come in to the Kitchen per week
and can handle an additional 30 walk-ins on top of that.
Pastor Sam uses profit made by the Lighthouse Thrift Store to (in part) fund the Lighthouse Shelter, although he admits that most of the time he never
really makes any profit off of the thrift store since part of the ministry also provides clothing and necessities to those in need. All of the employees
of the Lighthouse Thrift Store are volunteers.
The shelter side of the ministry currently houses six women and 8 men. Fourteen people are all that they are equipped to handle. Recently, Pastor Sam
held a fund raiser, something he says he isn’t fond of doing (asking people for money) and with the help of Clover Community Bank and a few other partners
was able to raise enough money to expand the shelter to house an additional 18 people. The new building is currently under construction. The only
stipulations to living in the Lighthouse Shelter are that you volunteer in the Thrift Store while you stay there, shelter residents must go to all church
events, and they must be drug & alcohol free. They must also have a goal to improve their current situation and a desire to get along with others.
